Fueling Freedom
October 9, 2014Winter Heat Tips
October 13, 2014Today’s consumers are more interested than ever in knowing where their food comes from, what’s in it and how it’s grown.
They are searching for answers, and Premier Ag is excited to join the conversation.
In response to consumers’ growing appetite for information about food production and agricultural management practices, Premier Ag has partnered with Land O’Lakes to showcase sustainability efforts of Southern Indiana farmers. The partnership is part of a new agricultural supply chain program for U.S. commodity crops called Field to Market.
Founded by the Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture, Field to Market focuses on benchmarking current sustainability outcomes, catalyzing continuous improvement at the field and landscape level, and enabling supply chain sourcing claims.
The initiative brings together a diverse group of grower organizations, agri-businesses, food, restaurant and retail companies, conservation groups, universities and agency partners to focus on promoting, defining and measuring the sustainability of food, fiber and fuel production.
Data is focused on measuring, promoting and reporting on seven sustainability indicators:
- land use
- soil conservation
- soil carbon
- irrigated water use
- water quality
- energy use
- and greenhouse gas emissions.
These are areas that Southern Indiana producers already excel in, and Premier is proud to join Land O’Lakes in this effort to educate consumers about the U.S. food channel and showcase local sustainability efforts.
“Southern Indiana farmers have a great story to tell about what commercial agriculture is already doing to protect our land and natural resources. We need to do a better job of sharing that story with the public,” said Harold Cooper, Premier Companies General Manager.
“This partnership gives us an opportunity to be at the forefront of new approaches in agriculture that will enable us to be even more productive and sustainable. Supporting advances in productivity is critical to our environmental commitment because it enables us to feed more people using less land, less water, and with less impact on the environment.”
