Summer is here! That means cookouts, swimming, outdoor gatherings, and let’s not forget the 4th of July fireworks! We’re headed into a fun season, but we wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t remind you of some safety precautions you and your family should be taking while participating in these fun activities. Check out some of these tips to ensure safe summer fun:
Tip 1: Have your grill inspected before you start using it for the season
We anticipate a lot of grill use this year, so you’ll want to make sure it’s in good working order. You need to check for any damage done to the grill that could potentially cause a malfunction. If you find damage to a wire or hose, we recommend getting it fixed before using your grill. If there is extensive damage, consider replacing the grill.
Tip 2: Check your grill before you turn it on, EVERY TIME
If your grill is stored outside (which it should be if there is a propane tank connected to it), you will want to open it up and make sure there is nothing inside before turning it on. Grills make cozy homes for birds or other animals, so check it out and remove any nests or debris before firing it up.
Tip 3: Keep objects away from the grill while in use
This is the perfect time of year to have cookouts with your family and friends, but make sure there aren’t any distractions while you are operating the grill. While the grill is in use, you should have it in an open area, away from objects, people, trees, or the yard games that sometimes get out of control. Bonus tip, have a fire extinguisher nearby at all times!
Tip 4: Store your propane cylinders outside, in an open area
Propane tanks should always be kept in well ventilated areas outdoors. Always keep the tanks upright, out of direct sunlight, and in an area free of clutter. It might be tempting to put your tanks in a garage or shed, but if the valve isn’t fully closed, the vapors will escape and concentrate in the enclosed space.
Tip 5: Be mindful of where you’re setting off fireworks
In general, if you are going to be shooting fireworks off for your 4th of July bash, you should make sure you are far away from any people or structures that could be harmed. More specifically, you should be aware of where your propane tanks are, and be sure NOT to set fireworks off anywhere near or towards your tanks. As always, it is smart to have a fire extinguisher nearby.
We hope these tips help take the stress out of the fun times to come this season! For more safety tips, read about Propane Safety.
Time to Grill!
Now that we have you excited to fire up the grill, the least we can do is provide you with a delicious recipe to try out! Grilled skewers are a summertime favorite, so this is definitely a fun one to try out at your next cookout. Enjoy!
