EP 69: USDA Report, Lower Yields, & Grandfathers
February 14, 2023EP 70: Row Crop Values, Current Ratio, & Wingdinger
February 28, 2023Spring is approaching quickly for growers in the Midwest. As a farmer-owned and lead cooperative, Premier prides itself on offering helpful tips and resources throughout the year to help set our growers up for success. Here are a few recommendations for you to consider as you start planning for this year’s planting season straight from our team:
Contact Your Account Manager
The very best resource for you to stay informed on what is going on in the industry is to connect with your local Premier Ag Account Manager. A large portion of our Account Managers’ jobs is to stay up to date with the latest market trends, technical information and product information. If you’re not sure who your Account Manager is or how to contact them, fill out the short form at the end of this post and our team will be in touch very soon with your next steps.
Listen to Podcasts
Listening to podcasts is a great way to stay up-to-date as well. It is easy to turn one on in the truck or in the background while working to listen in on the latest news and technology. If you haven’t caught up on Premier’s podcast, the HIGH GROUND hosted by Sal Sama and Ryan Priest, you can watch and listen to all episodes by visiting our website.
In-Person Meetings and Events
We also recommend attending an in person meeting hosted by Premier Ag or by other local extension agencies. To receive information on the next upcoming meeting, please fill out the short form at the end of this post and our team will send you the information.
In addition to in-person meetings, you can research upcoming trade shows and events in your area to learn more about topics that you may not even be considering yet. For example, try finding presentations on alternative revenue streams for the farm. A great example of this would be sustainability programs such as the Land O’ Lakes Truterra Carbon initiative.
Download Smartphone Apps & Sign Up for Newsletters
Downloading apps to your phone and subscribing to email newsletters that cover topics you are interested in is a great way to have someone else do the research for you. Then, all you have to do is choose which information you’d like to learn more about.
The Bushel App by Premier Ag is a great all-in-one solution for our members to have instant access to their grain data from the convenience of their mobile phone and through their web portal. All you will need is to link your mobile phone number to your Premier Ag account and you will be all set!
There are a few other reputable apps to consider as well. View this article from the Farm Bureau Financial Services for a few ideas.
Emailed newsletters are also a great way to capitalize on what is happening right now in the world of Ag. One recommended by our team is the newsletter distributed by Magnetic Ag.
Join a Cooperative
For example, when you are a member of the Premier Ag Cooperative, you will benefit from the success we make as an organization. We keep you connected to your community by keeping profits local through the patronage redemption program. Members also gain access to experts who can provide valuable information to your farming operation.
If you are ready to join Premier, download the form on our website titled “Premier Membership Application”, fill it out, and either mail or email it to Premier. If you have questions about joining a cooperative before moving forward, please fill out the short form at the end of this post and our team will be in touch very soon to answer your questions.
No matter what resources you choose to utilize for the growing season this year, the most important advice we can give is to have a plan and write it down. That plan may not come to fruition 100% of the time, but it will at least give you a place to start and a place to review at the end of the year.
As always, Premier is here to help! Please reach out if you have any questions or to discuss joining Premier further.
