That’s why programs like the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) are so vital. At Premier Energy, we’re committed to helping our customers understand and utilize resources like HEAP to manage their energy needs effectively.
Here’s how we help educate our customers about HEAP and provide support for our customers:
Encouraging Smart Planning During the Summer
One of the best ways customers can manage their energy costs is by filling their tank during the summer months when fuel rates are typically at their lowest. Premier Energy encourages all customers to plan ahead if they can, helping them save money and avoid last-minute challenges during peak winter demand.
Applying for HEAP Assistance
Customers cannot apply for HEAP assistance directly through Premier Energy. Instead, they need to complete the application process online or make an appointment with their local HEAP office. For those unsure where to start, we recommend dialing 211 to connect with local agencies and resources that can provide guidance on the application process.
Since HEAP eligibility is determined by income, Premier Energy cannot assess whether a customer qualifies for benefits. However, we encourage anyone who may be struggling with energy costs to apply. Taking the first step could provide much-needed relief.
How HEAP Benefits Are Applied to Premier Energy Accounts
Once a customer is approved for HEAP, the state or local agency notifies Premier Energy with a pledge or promise to pay toward the customer’s account. If a customer needs a fuel delivery, we can make one after receiving the pledge. It typically takes about 30 days for Premier Energy to receive the actual payment, so planning ahead is crucial to ensure uninterrupted service.
Providing Seasonal Assistance and Budget Billing Options
HEAP offers seasonal programs like the Winter Crisis Program to provide additional relief for families during the coldest months. While Premier Energy doesn’t administer these programs directly, we encourage customers to take advantage of them when needed. For those who qualify through our credit department, we also offer budget billing options. Budget billing spreads fuel costs across the year, making energy expenses more predictable and easier to manage—an excellent complement to HEAP benefits.
Offering Support and Information
At Premier Energy, we understand that navigating energy assistance programs can be overwhelming. While we cannot determine HEAP eligibility or directly assist with the application process, we are proactive in pointing customers toward resources. When speaking with customers who are struggling to pay for fuel, we suggest they apply for HEAP or call 211 to explore other assistance options in their area.
Additionally, over the summer, we attempt to contact customers with a remaining credit balance from winter to ensure they maximize their benefits. Taking advantage of these opportunities early can help prevent last-minute emergencies when weather and road conditions can make fuel delivery more challenging.

We strongly encourage customers not to wait until the last minute to schedule a tank refill. Running out of fuel not only results in extra costs and delays but also reduces the effectiveness of energy assistance benefits. By planning ahead, customers can avoid unnecessary stress and ensure their homes stay warm throughout the winter.
